Pampatar
A historic port on Margarita's east coast, with a colonial fortress on the bay, a town beach, seafood restaurants and the island's big shopping malls nearby.
Pampatar is one of Margarita's oldest towns, a colonial port whose bay is still dotted with colourful fishing boats. Overlooking the water stands the Castillo de San Carlos Borromeo, a Spanish fortress that is one of the island's best-known historic sights.
The town has its own beach and a waterfront of seafood restaurants, and it sits close to the large shopping malls on the east side of the island — easy to combine history, the beach and an afternoon of shopping in one day.
