Playa El Agua
Margarita's best-known beach: kilometres of golden sand lined with coconut palms, beach restaurants and open-sea waves on the north-east coast.
Playa El Agua is the beach most visitors picture when they think of Margarita Island. A wide strip of golden sand runs for kilometres along the north-east coast, backed by coconut palms and a line of restaurants and beach bars serving fresh fish and cold drinks.
The sea here is open Caribbean, with waves that can be strong — swim where the locals do and keep an eye on the flags. It's a beach for a long, lively day: a lounger under the palms, lunch by the sand and a walk along the shore at sunset.
